History

Soggiorno – Hospitality

The Soggiorno Lo Stellino sits on the Via Francigena, the mediaeval pilgrim route to Rome and the Holy Land. Along this ancient way are numerous buildings dating from the 11th and 12th centuries including churches, abbeys, refuges and inns which offered hospitality to travellers.

This tradition of warm hospitality continues at the Soggiorno Lo Stellino reflecting the motto carved above one of the ancient city gates: “COR MAGIS TIBI SENA PANDIT” - Siena opens her heart to you

Stellino

The hotel’s name refers to the “Stellino”, a silver coin used by travellers to pay the Florentine duty imposed by Cosimo I dei Medici.

Today the “Soggiorno Lo Stellino” is a small, comfortable hotel situated in a restored 19th century distillery. Echoes of the building’s previous use can be seen in the old tower, where there is a bedroom with a panoramic view, and the “historic bottles” on display.
